Junior fairs can be competitive, with young exhibitors battling it out over whose animal takes home the ribbon for grand champion and reserve. But, they also have a way of bringing out the best in the communities they serve.
OPSB wants public input during rule review
The Ohio Power Siting Board wants to hear from the public as it reviews its administrative rules governing applications for solar farms. The board is considering implementing new rules for solar facilities, including setbacks, landscape, lighting design, perimeter fencing requirements and operational noise.
Northeast Ohio vineyards at risk from invasive spotted lanternfly
The Ohio Department of Agriculture confirmed Sept. 2 that a population of the invasive spotted lanternfly was found in Cleveland near the end of August. This insect feeds on grapevines and fruit trees, in addition to other plants, making it a major concern for the grape and wine industries.
Penn State creates carbon emissions task force
Pennsylvania State University is ahead of schedule to meet its goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Now university President Eric Barron wants the university to be more aggressive. He announced the creation of the Carbon Emissions Reduction Task Force on Sept. 3.
Food vendors seeing brighter days with 175th Canfield Fair
Food vendors faced major losses in a 2020 that saw most fairs and festivals either scaled back or canceled completely. Vendors at the Canfield Fair were eager to be back for the 2021 season. Many are seeing customers return to the fairs in full force.
