Hello from Hazard!

Well, Item No. 700 was an appropriate one for this time of year, as readers’ responses came through to identify the mystery item.

The tool is an ice chipper/pick and scoop, used in the days of block ice and home ice boxes. Reader Tito Norris also calls it an ice box ice scraper and includes a manufacturer, The Coolerator Co. of Duluth, Minn.

Our thanks to the following readers, in addition to Norris, for identifying the tool:

Bob Corll of Canfield, Ohio; Elsie Hartlieb,, Valley Grove, W.Va.; Glen Miller, Canal Winchester, Ohio; Kay Sigler of Canton, Ohio; Viola Werner, Akron; Jim McKeen, Bethany, W.Va.; and Bob Kwalwasser of Renfrew, Pa.

Maybe we’ll be just as lucky with Item No. 701, which is also a mystery item.

It measures about 12 inches high and 9 inches wide. How was it used?
