LISBON, Ohio — Victor Mattevi, 71, of 34878 state Route 172, Lisbon, died Nov. 17, 2009, at the Forum Northside Hospital in Youngstown.

He was born July 24, 1938, in Salem, son of the late Joseph and Rosamond (Burcaw) Mattevi.

Mattevi was employed at Buckeye Industrial Mining for more than 25 years as a heavy equipment operator.

He served in the U.S. Army “Special Forces” for more than 24 years, retiring in 1981. He was an instructor in the Special Forces and served in the Green Beret Unit.

Mattevi was a 1956 graduate of Salem High School, and he was a parachute instructor at the Columbiana County Airport.

He was a member of the Lisbon American Legion, Special Forces Association, Lisbon Masonic Lodge F. & A. M. #0065 and the International Cockshutt Club.

His wife, Nancy (Rucker) Mattevi, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his son, Randall E. Mattevi; fiancée, Esther Sell, of Lisbon; and three grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren and a son, Doug Mattevi.

Services were held Nov. 21 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Hydrick officiating. Burial was held at the Grandview Cemetery in Salem.
