LEWISVILLE, Ohio — For more than 50 years, Baker & Sons Equipment Co., 45381 state Route 145, Lewisville, Ohio, has been working with farmers, landowners and consumers to keep them growing strong.
Ever since John Baker started the business in 1958, he’s been committed to agriculture and the community. Today, he still leads the family-owned company, along with his family — Steve Baker, Greg Baker and Rhonda Marshall. The business employs 22 full-time workers and two part-time employees.
Along the way, the dealership has expanded its operations at the same location seven times.
And, said John Baker, “we continue to cover a larger area as other dealerships have closed in the last few years and we now have more customers in those areas.”
Product lines. At Baker & Sons, you’ll find sales, service, and parts for Massey Ferguson products, as well as lines from New Holland, Prentice-Hydro Ax, Hood Loaders, Barko Loaders, Kuhn, Kuhn Knight, Duratech Tub Grinders, Bush Hog, TimberPro, Pitts Trailers, Cutting Systems, Inc., Rotobec grapples.
Diversification. “We were glad to turn the calendar on 2009!” admitted Baker, but he pointed to the company’s motto — “With our sights on the future, we serve your needs today.” — as helping steer the dealership in the right direction.
“Equipment sales were lower this year, but we have kept our customers operating with our parts and service at a higher level,” he added.
Also, in 2009, the company added the TimberPro product line to better serve the track and rubber tire tree processing part of the timber business.
“Adding biomass production to the timber industry business should greatly benefit all complementary industries,” Baker said.
The dealership also renewed its focus on its website, www.bakerandsons.com, which has continued to increase sales “beyond our expectations,” Baker said.
And he’s convinced the company’s service in all departments — parts, services, and sales, as well as Internet sales — will mean continued growth potential for Baker & Sons.
