Business Profile: W.G. Dairy Supply

The family business currently offers a full line of milking and barn equipment, including Bou-Matic milking systems; Dari-Kool bulk tanks and sanitation; Chemland cleaning chemicals; J-Star Bodco silo unloaders; feed bunks; alley scrapers; barn cleaners; roto mix; Oswalt and Schuler feed mixer; Katolight alternators; coverall shelters; poly dome calf hutches; feed bins; foot baths; silage carts; Schafer fans; Behlen gates; panels and feeders; Smidly feeders; Cardinal augers; SI feeders; CTB grain bins; culvert and field tiles; electrical and plumbing supplies and more.

All equipment is backed up by 24-hour service and repairs.

The business added new products in 2007, and runs four route trucks that deliver products to farms within a 100-mile radius.

Donald and Martha Walder and a partner bought out a distributor that was handling Dari-Kool bulk tanks and Bou-Matic milking equipment in 1963. In 1964, the trio opened W.G. Dairy in Creston and started adding merchandise.

In 1970, the company became a family-owned business when the Walders’ partner sold his share of the business to them. Seven years later, the Walders bought 4 acres of land south of Creston and built the company’s Butler building.

Two more warehouses have been added since.

Family business. After Donald passed away in 1998, his daughter, Donna, took over management. Another daughter, Sharon Rupp, is also employed full time, as well as a granddaughter and grandsons.

The company makes employees high on its priority list. Randy Moore, service manager, has been with W.G. Dairy for 38 years.

Many of the other employees have been with the company for years. Martha is still active in the business.
