DUNDEE, Ohio — Trail Farm Supply is celebrating its 31st year in business and with the anniversary, comes a new shop and a new location.
The shop was relocated in 2008 from a garage to its new location on Township Road 412. A new shop was built to allow the business to expand.
Manufacturing specialty
Trail Farm Supply specializes as a manufacturer of custom horse and dairy barn equipment. All products, including box stalls with sliding door fronts and gate partitions, are made of 10 gauge galvanized alloyed steel tubing, design for strength and rust resistance.
“It has a very strong build and yet is inexpensive,” said business owner, Nelson B. Weaver, of the tubing.
Weaver says he owes any success to his dedication to customer service, and with that comes honesty, integrity and quality products.
And it must be working: The business had its biggest year ever in milk parlors in 2008.
Trail Farm Supply is celebrating 31 years in business. Its specialty is custom manufactured parallel right angle milking parlors built with 10 gauge galvanized tubing. The company also builds box stalls, gates and tiestalls for horses.
Business history
In 1971, Weaver started farming and soon had 13 children. He began a furniture shop at his home. Then, when the family grew, the eldest son took over the furniture business.
Weaver is not a stranger to the dairy business. He milked cattle for 35 years on his farm and has been raising produce for 13 years.
After his children started growing up and leaving home, Weaver began to focus his energy on the business, Trail Farm Supply.
The business traces its roots to 1978, when Weaver started buying tiestalls from Show-Ease Stall Co., a manufacturer in Lancaster, Pa., and selling them in the area. From this, he started handling more and more products.
Then in 2000, Trail Farm Supply renovated itself and began manufacturing its own equipment.
Now, Weaver’s son-in-law farms the family farm, which lets Weaver use more energy to keep Trail Farm Supply customers happy.
Items available
Today, Trail Farm Supply sells horse and dairy barn equipment.
For horses, Trail Farm Supply sells box stalls, gates, tie stalls and hay and grain feeders.
The box stalls include partition gates with the ability to swing against the wall for easy cleaning and to enlarge the box stall size if needed.
In the dairy cattle side of the business, Trail Farm Supply features the sale of tiestalls, freestalls, rubber mats, headlocks, milking parlors, gates and additional hay feeders.
Customer satisfaction
Weaver said Trail Farm Supply is attempting to overcome the effects of the economic downturn by continuing to offer a top quality product at an affordable price. Manufacturing quality products means hard work, but it also gains a loyal customer.
“We never sell anything to a customer that he doesn’t need,” Weaver said.
He adds that being open with customers and giving advice helps to build a strong customer base.
Weaver added trusting in God to help the country get through these tough times and giving back to the community by sharing and caring will also help.
